Argan oil is cold-pressed from the kernels of Argania spinosa, a tree endemic to southwestern Morocco, where women’s cooperatives have produced it for centuries. Its balanced oleic–linoleic profile, high vitamin E, and rare sterols (schottenol, spinasterol) give it a light yet nourishing character with clinical support: in postmenopausal women, daily topical argan oil improved skin elasticity [1] and hydration [2] over 60 days, and reviews document antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and barrier benefits [3]. Argan is the “liquid gold” of haircare, taming frizz and adding shine without heaviness. Cosmetic-grade argan is pressed from unroasted kernels (culinary argan is roasted and nutty). ORY® uses it across all four lines, with fair-trade cooperative sourcing.
What is Argan Oil made of?
Argan oil is cold-pressed from dried, unroasted kernels (about 30 kg of fruit per liter). Composition [3]:
- Oleic acid (43–50%) and linoleic acid (29–36%): Balanced emollient and barrier-repair profile.
- Palmitic (12%) and stearic (6%) acids: Structural.
- Tocopherols (600–900 mg/kg, mostly γ-tocopherol): Strong antioxidant.
- Sterols (schottenol, spinasterol), squalene, polyphenols (ferulic acid): Rare anti-inflammatory and skin-repair minors.
- Comedogenic rating ~0–1; shelf life 12–18 months.
- Soap data: SAP ~0.136 g NaOH/g; conditioning; 5–10% of oils or superfat.
What skin type is best suited for Argan Oil?
Argan suits all seven ORY® skin types with a light-to-medium feel:
- Mature: Clinically improved elasticity and hydration [1, 2].
- Dry: Nourishing without heaviness.
- Normal: Daily face and body oil.
- Combination: Light enough for mixed skin.
- Oily: Low comedogenicity; use sparingly.
- Acne-prone: Linoleic-rich; anti-inflammatory; non-clogging for most.
- Sensitive: Gentle; patch test (tree-nut-family caution).
What hair type is best suited for Argan Oil?
Argan is ORY®‘s hero hair oil:
- Dry or damaged: Argan coats and softens the fiber, reducing moisture loss and mechanical breakage.
- Curly and coily: Sealing oil over water-based leave-ins (LOC/LCO method).
- Color-treated or chemically processed: Replenishes lipids stripped by chemical services.
- Straight and wavy: Light enough for fine hair — the classic anti-frizz, shine-boosting serum oil.
- Oily scalp: Lengths and ends only.
- Sensitive scalp: Neutral carrier for scalp actives; patch test.
- Dandruff-prone, mature or thinning: Carrier for rosemary, peppermint, or tea tree scalp treatments.
What are the benefits of Argan Oil?
Argan oil’s benefits are supported by clinical trials and reviews [1–3]:
- Elasticity: Improved skin elasticity in postmenopausal women [1].
- Hydration: Increased hydration and reduced water loss [2].
- Antioxidant: High tocopherol and polyphenol content [3].
- Anti-inflammatory: Sterols and ferulic acid calm irritation.
- Barrier repair: Linoleic acid replenishes ceramide precursors.
- Hair smoothing and shine: Seals the cuticle; tames frizz; heat protection.
